Sanctioned by British Cycling - New community dimension addition to Newbury Sportive

Organisers Ken and Barbara Robson have added a new and exciting cycling dimension to their Sportive at Newbury Showground – Cycling for the Community - to bring together experienced riders and leisure family cyclists to enjoy a great day of cycling for all levels of abilities.
The Newbury Sportive Cycling Festival now features:
  • 115mile & 75mile Victor Ludorum Autumn Classics – Best of the Golds
  • 115mile & 75 mile Combined Services Sportive for Army, Royal Navy and RAF
  • Cycling for the Community within showground for family, friends and leisure cyclists.

The Sportives – Best of the Golds

The course design takes in some of the best cycling terrain in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire on open country lanes and B-roads. Furthermore UCI, British Cycling and Combined Services Cycling Association (CSCA) have given their approval of the facilities and courses. It will be a rider’s ride and on the day will be a significant challenge for experienced sportive riders and a good entry level for cyclists new to sportives. It is likely to be fast but challenging with 2500m of ascent to take into account This will enable climbers, trialists, and team riders to have their chances to excel. Individual and Team Victor Ludorum performance awards will be decided on the day.

Combined Services will be staging their first sportive event for Army, Royal Navy, and RAF. CSCA see this as a recognised event where, having experienced the excellent rider logistics support provided by the organisers, their riders can participate in a serious challenge or cycle at a speed which suits them whilst enjoying stunning scenery. The inter Services sportive will be decided by best rider performances under gold standards for their age categories.

Additional awards for both sportive events will include prizes for the cycling club and service unit that have the most participants taking part in the 115mile and 75mile events. Full details at http://www.cyclegb.co.uk/

Cycling for the Community - Encouraging cycling as a safe and healthy lifestyle
